Vacheron Constantin Unveils a £200,000 Timepiece with a Galloping Horse on the Dial
Vacheron Constantin, a renowned Swiss watchmaker, has unveiled a masterpiece that blends high horology with artistic craftsmanship. The latest addition to its Métiers d’Art “Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” series celebrates the Year of the Horse, a symbol of vitality, courage, and good fortune in Chinese culture.
This exquisite timepiece is limited to just 25 pieces in pink gold and 25 in platinum, each taking up to two weeks to complete. The 40mm watch features a self-winding calibre 2460 G4 movement, which replaces traditional hands with four apertures displaying hours, minutes, day, and date. The center of the dial is adorned with a three-dimensional horse sculpted from gold, surrounded by intricate enamelled foliage created using grand feu enamelling, miniature painting, and relief engraving.
Vacheron Constantin's association with China dates back to 1846 when the brand sent its first decorated timepieces to Canton. This new release continues that cultural tribute, showcasing the brand's enduring fascination with art in motion. With 237 components and finished to Hallmark of Geneva standards, the movement features a 22-carat gold oscillating weight shaped with the brand's iconic Maltese cross.
The result is a watch that seamlessly combines precision, patience, and symbolism, embodying Vacheron Constantin's 270-year commitment to excellence and innovation. This timepiece is a testament to the brand's ability to create small, mechanical wonders that reflect its quest to 'do better if possible.'
